Organization

The Society of Mercy is an extra-territorial society of validly ordained priests Catholic priests not under the Pope who provide sacraments to those in need. Faithful may attend Society chapels, receive Society sacraments, and unite themselves with the Society more closely.

The Society is governed by a Superior General who is in communion with the Archbishop of the Old Roman Catholic Church in Great Britain. He holds the rank of Archbishop in personam. The Superior General appoints a Chapter of Consultors to assist with governance of the Society. The Chapter of Consultors regulates the clergy of the Society. Bishops of the Society provide for sacramental needs and do not have jurisdiction in the traditional sense, with the exception of the Superior General who oversees the Society. The faithful receive spiritual guidance from the clergy of the Society and do not need to affiliate. If they chose to do so they can join the Companions of Mercy. Because the Society is self-governing, it has its own Constitution and rules regulating its operation.
