The clergy of the Society gathered August 14–16, 2025, for the quadrennial General Chapter, a time of prayer and fraternity. Members joined together to discuss matters of ecclesiology and mission while also enjoying fellowship together.

During the Chapter, elections were held. The Very Rev. Dan Storrs, SSM, was re-elected as Vicar General. The Very Revs. Daniel Minnucci, SSM, and George Ontko, SSM, were chosen to serve as Consultors.

A highlight of the gathering was the solemn blessing of the image of the Mother of Unfailing Mercy. Copies of the holy icon were distributed among members to share in their ministries and with those they serve.

Even as the community celebrated, participants expressed sorrow for those unable to attend the Chapter. Gratefully, video conference software allowed some of our members to still participate.

Pope Francis' focus on mercy was an inspiration for many, and reminded the faithful of God's love for them. His compassionate witness gave hope, especially to the poor whom he loved greatly. We pray for our Roman Catholic sisters and brothers as they grieve, as well as for those organizing and overseeing the transition. It is with great sorrow that I learned of the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. The Pope Emeritus was born and grew up in some of the most turbulent years of the twentieth century. Despite this, he fostered a life of prayer that would be consistent throughout his life. The Pope Emeritus channeled his God-given gifts into writing, and the Church universal gives thanks for his extensive theological writings.

While differences set us apart, the Society of Mercy and the Old Roman Catholic Church maintain filial devotion to the Papal office and its holders. I ask our members to join with me in praying for the repose of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's soul and for the current Holy Father, Pope Francis, as he mourns his predecessor.
